If you don t have one you can use a thick paperclip small pick. Tips down would not be as easy to use. Why do i have to specify the door handing when i order my lever handles.

According to this guy on youtube the traditional way is middle of the curve up end of the curve down which looks better but you can do it the other way for disabilities. A lever is easier to manipulate for an elderly resident with arthritis or anyone with their hands full. It just takes a pin. Most lever handles are designed for a fancy look.
